Last Night...
Current mood: Category: Parties and Nightlife Last night I went out with a bunch of friends to live band Karaoke at Lefty's. I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was! It had been over a year since I'd done Karaoke and may I just say that some of my fondest adult memories have occurred directly before, during or after karaoke? I don't know how to explain it... it's just so darn fun! The idea of getting up in front of people to sing my favorite songs gets me downright giddy! Now imagine me giddy, and then quadruple that and you'll know how excited I get when I'm doing LIVE BAND karaoke! It's a whole nother ball of wax! Oh, but good wax... like the kind they use in really good candles...OR the kind they use to make those little wax Coke bottles with the cola inside them... mmmmmm. That takes me back.... Anyway! Last night I hauled butt over to S squared's place (I was running late and it wasn't my fault) and brunette S drove me and her to Lefty's. We got there and our "peeps" (I'm so down with the gangsta scene it's off the chain!) had already started to arrive. We sat in the totally cool looking but completely uncomfortable lounge section and ordered some drinks and food. I was chomping at the bit. Some of the members of the band started to arrive and were doing sound checks and such. I chomped harder. The food and drinks came and FINALLY eight o'clock rolled around. We got the list of songs from the MC, who was really cute but WAY too skinny in my personal opinion. I was first on the list! I chose my standard Bonnie Raitt song and after the band played a few songs and the MC did a song it was my turn. I totally rocked it. All my "crew" were whooping it up for me and when I held out a note for emphasis they totally woo hooed me. It was awesome. When I got through singing the MC came up and told me I had a really pretty voice. I was truly flattered! Blonde and brunette S got up and sang a duet and did a very good job and after the band took a break I got up and sang the OTHER Bonnie Raitt song. Then close to the end Bryan/Brian got up and sang "Smooth" by Santana. It was TOTALLY smooth. Other notable performances were the bartender who was having wardrobe malfunctions but was TOTALLY good looking and stared me down as he walked back to the bar after he sang "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith. (He also made sure to make eye contact with me as I was walking out and said, "Thanks for coming in folks, be sure and come back and see us.") I also enjoyed the harmonica player who winked at me when he finished his final song. There were two blonde chicks who rocked it with a Pat Benetar song and a Cheap Trick song. I'd also like to give a shout out to the "big" girls who got up and sang fearlessly without regard for size or stigma. They outnumbered the skinny chicks by at least 2 to 1 last night and I simply must give 'em all "props," even if they did act a little bit like their poop didn't stink. So yeah, it was a totally fun night and I would venture to say that some of us may make it a regular occurrence from here on out. I know I'm game. There's just something cool about standing up in front of people and singing your heart out, but it's SO much cooler when you have a real band behind you. PS - The pizza was awesome and didn't make me sick. Yay! Love ya all, hope you can come out and share in the fun sometime! |
