Research Shows...
Current mood: Category: Religion and Philosophy God is so good. I am so thankful that I went to a Christian college. I was doing some research on some hot topics today and I realized that I have tools and resources that many Christians may not know about. I hated taking Christian Theology when I was in the class – I had some issues with the professor – but I'll tell you what, I walked away with a new found understanding of what I believed and why I believed it. It wasn't my parents' religion anymore: it was MY faith and it was based on things I had studied and learned first hand. I think of all the word studies I did back then, and all the passages I broke down, and I realize that with a little bit of time, prayer and the Holy Spirit's guidance I can know the true meaning of what God is saying in His word. I hear so often that the Bible is vague and that there are many different translations and ways of understanding it. The reality is that the original texts were written in languages that were MUCH more specific than ours, and we CAN know specifically what they were and are talking about. I guess my charge is this: don't be afraid to do the research. Get out a concordance, a Greek Lexicon, a Hebrew dictionary… don't just take some resource author's word for it… look it up! Do the work. That's why words like MEDITATE, STUDY and SEARCH are used in the Bible. If all you're doing is reading a few verses in the Bible, saying a little prayer and calling it good, you're probably short changing yourself with regard to your understanding of the scriptures, your spiritual growth and God's will for your life. I'm not judging, I'm just speaking plainly… and I'm speaking from experience. Research shows… that I'm serious about what I say I believe. |
